Mountain Wings: The More you Do

Hello Everyone,
I hope you enjoy these Mountain Wings. I certainly do. This is very
true. We all need to stay busy. The laugh at the end of the day is great.
If your needing a good laugh, some cheering up, then read this entire
message. Take care. We are ordering Pasta from Pizza Hut and will
watch a movie. Its nice to stay up late when I don't have to work the next
day. I placed my flipper back in my mouth after I took my nap. I won't
wear my flipper when I eat. I really sound funny and I am told the more
I talk the easier it will be. We shall see. I never had braces or a
retainer. I wore a mouth guard as a kid when I played
basketball, skateboarded and ice skate. It reminds me of that but looks
much, much better. There is no gap between my gum and from what the Dentist
said the shade is perfect. Its like anything, will take time to adapt,to
change. I do have a foreign object in my mouth after all. I will be
speaking clearly and sound like me in a few days to a week. Maybe I should
practice tongue twisters? Selling seashells by the seashore? lol.

Speaking of laughter, it feels nice and secure in my mouth. It is held
together by two small clasps one on each side of my jaw. I wonder if I
laughed so hard,it would pop out? My eyes have, not from laughing of
course. lol
Well, take care and I hope you all finding my posts interesting. Noone
has made comments in a wicked long time, so if you want to,please do.
Send comments or feedback on this or any post. I'd love to hear from any
of you. If anyone has had a "Flipper" and or a dental implant I would
especially like to hear from you. Have a great weekend. Darrell is
placing our order online so hopefully they will be hear soon. Then
again, its Friday. We should not have eaten so late. However, we were
taking a nap and then chatting with Jeff for a short while. Glad you had
a better day, things are progressing. Yet, what an emotional roller coaster
ride! I remember the days at theSeeing Eye. Being at dog guide school is
like that . Fortunately I never had to experience giving up one dog and
being placed with another all in one day. Hang in there.!
Darrell your day yesterday was a very bad one too. I know classes seem
overwhelming and some of your books are not accessible. How
frustrating! You have a ton of work but you will persevere. You will see.
You will get all A's again this Semester too. Hang in there and let me
know if you need help with your Spanish. I will be glad to assist.
I hope you all will listen to our show, the Desert Cafe show Monday night.
Stay tuned to more updates on my oral surgery and Darrell's classes. Have
a good night and hope this laugh for the day made you more then just smile.

The More You Do
================

Where do you get the time?

Someone came to my house today who receives MountainWings.

They said, "I really enjoy MountainWings but where do you get
the time to write it?"

They know that I run two businesses, President of one and
Executive V. P. of another. Both are substantial businesses and
substantial responsibilities.

I am also the pastor of a church.

I also have a family (that may be the more demanding job).

They wanted to know, "where did I get the time to write
MountainWings?"

There are two points that I want you to understand,
the first one I will explain today.

"The more you do, the more you can do."

There is an old adage that goes,
"If you want something done, give it to a busy person."

By normal logic this would seem backwards.

It would appear that if you want to get something done you
should give it to someone who has plenty of free time on their
hands, someone whose schedule is open, someone with little
responsibility and ample room for more.

That would be the normal logic.

The truth is the reverse.

If you want something done, give the job to someone who is
already doing a lot. Don't give it to someone who has a lot of
free time on their hands and is just doing enough to get by.

Let me give you some simple examples on a personal level.

Who do you find in educational classes that are beyond mandatory
or college?

Check that crowd, it will usually be those with a lot of
knowledge already.

Go to a gym in July.
Don't go at the beginning of the year, you'll mostly find the
New Year's resolution crowd that will be long gone in two
months.

Who will you find that exercises the most and the hardest?
It will usually be those who are already in shape and
NEED the exercise the least. Those who exercise the most are
able to exercise even more. Those who are sedentary, get
softer and softer and are able to do less and less.

Go to a finance seminar. I'm not talking about a multi-level
marketing get rich quick seminar but a real honest financial
seminar on how to handle, invest and make more money. Who will
you find? Generally you will find those who are already
handling their money far better than average and have far more
than average.

There is a simple spiritual principle that reads,

"To those that have they shall get more added to them. To those
that don't have, even what they seem to have will be taken away
from them." Jesus said that, not me.

I didn't say it but I understand it.

I majored in chemistry.

It's called Markonikov's law in Chemistry.

The law is about hydrogen atoms and the carbon molecules that
the unattached hydrogen atoms move to. Markonikov's law states,
"them that has gits." The free hydrogen atoms go to the carbons
that already have the most hydrogen atoms.

The world puts it this way, "the rich get richer and the poor
get poorer." It's always been and will always be that way
whether you like it or not.

You may not think it's fair but it's the way it is and will be.

The thing is, it doesn't apply just to money.
It applies to anything.

Those who have an abundance of it already have a much greater
probability of getting more than someone who doesn't have any.

Anything

You name it: love, money, sex, health, peace, confidence,
spiritual enlightenment, etc., it applies. Anything

That also holds true for the negative things.
Those who are rich in negative things get even more negative
things.

So why am I harping on that?

To simply tell you this. . . GET BUSY!!!

When you start doing more, more things will come to you.
If you only do what the average does, you will get what the
average gets. That makes sense doesn't it?

SO GET BUSY!!!

Remember, the average person never reaches the mountaintop
because you can't get to the mountaintop on average effort.

You have to get busy.

Today's KDD: My New Flipper,Jeff's New Dog and Darrell's Classes

Its Friday late afternoon on January Twenty-three,

And I am here to compose another KDD.

This morning the Dentist I did go,

And tonight we will not be covering for Jeff, doing his show

Darrell has had a long week, classes started, and already the homework is
piling up,

And I am sitting here with water in this cute ceramic cup,

This bear mug that I was given by Jeff and Keri,

And those of you who read Jeff's blog, know he has a new Dog named Harry.

It was a difficult decision and an emotional day for him yesterday,

Yet, everything will be okay,

And though despite the fact Declan had the skills and well he did guide,

Jeff ultimately did decide,

That Declan was not suited for him and his family environment, I know that
wasn't an easy choice to make,

Give yourself a break

It was best for everyone,

Now, the training with Harry can begin, has begun

There will be stressful times, but there will also be moments that you
will have fun.

Sending you hugs and love ya,hang in there,

And continue blogging, more do share

All your readers look forward with anticipation as to what is next

As jaws or window eyes reads the text,

Or those with full sight or those who read with a Braille display,

No matter the method, we want to hear about your day

The good, the bad and the ugly,

Your experience at GBD and other stuff in your life we want to see.

Its awesome, very cool, and a side of you that most don't see,

Except close friends and family.

So hope you will keep writing after you leave GBD and return to the U
of A,

Of course know you will not be able to write every day

Most who read your blog will stay,

Tuned and watch for highlights of your life,

Of things that have happened for you, for Keri, your wife,

The kids too,

Or even, Harry, the snakes and Mew.

As I was saying Darrell has had an overwhelming week with all the reading
and assignments to complete

He is taking 13 credits and with other students he will sometimes meet

To study, especially for his Spanish Class, its required,

And I am feeling tired,

I am feeling much better, but still have this cough, it won't go away

And I had an interesting Dentist appointment today.

Some of you know I lost my crown, my front tooth a week ago,

However, you may not know,

I have to have oral surgery sometime soon, Tuesday the surgeon I will see

Then, I know when the procedure will be

I do know it will take 4 to 6 months before I get my dental implant, hope
time will fly, will sail

Meanwhile, I have what is called a Flipper, its a whale,

Of an option some do say

It is a denture, looks fin tastic but only feels okay,

Actually doesn't feel good I am tolerating it,

It fits right under my top row of teeth, there is a plastic piece that
fits right under my pallet

And two clasps on the side,

And one little tooth its awkward ,strange inside,

Underneath, feel like I have gum or peanut butter on the roof of my mouth,
so its hard to talk. its like I have a lisp,

Like I have a speech impediment, I will get use to this

I will adapt, as I did with my prosthetic eyes, it's a similar thing,

Soon I will be able to sing,

Even though I can't really carry a tune, lol

I am not on key, I will soon,

Will be speaking fine

And I will drive all of you crazy who talk with me on a regular basis,

And I will again have a beautiful smile when I go places

Its like a retainer, about that size, take it out when I brush, eat and
sleep

I was given a new toothbrush and a plastic case to keep,

It in there when not wearing it

And now as I write this, I do grit,

And bare it, this weird feelling,it will pass,

And Darrell has been busy working, today he does not have class

Our friend Tina is back at school as well,

Things are going good from what she does tell,

She is taking music classes guitar, a woodwind one also ,

And a philosophy and psychology class, they all sound like fun.

Tonight Darrell and I may watch a movie, just relax and chill, not much
tomorrow we will do,

And the Dentist also said, its ideal to remove it when eating in public
too,

Will wear this for 4 to 6 months, seems like a long time,

At least its not nine,

Or a permanent thing, I am glad I don't have a full set,

Hope full dentures I will never have to get.

Well, I have worn this for 7 hours,

Think I will take it out, take a shower,

And a nap and put it in back again

And tomorrow I will try and wear it hours ten,

Since Sunday work I do go,

And Monday evening we will do our show

For now, take good care have a great Friday night,

And another time I will write.

Extraction #2
==============

If you didn't read yesterday's MountainWings or are a new
subscriber click below to read yesterday's "Extraction."
http://www.mountainwings.com/1039.htm

Yesterday I asked you to count how many good teeth you had.

So you now know how many good teeth you have.

Did you notice something?

For the vast majority, the number of good teeth FAR outnumbers
the bad.

You have far more good teeth but it's the bad teeth that get all
of the attention. One bad tooth can cause us so much pain that
we forget about all of the good.

So it is with life.

One bad relationship and we think all men/women are bad.

One bad experience with a member of a different race. religion
or culture and we think all who are different from us are bad.

A company can have a thousand employees and we can have one bad
experience with an obnoxious employee and we think the whole
company is bad.

One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch but it will
eventually spoil the whole bunch if you don't remove the bad
apple. Infection spreads.

Some things you have to extract to keep it from spoiling the
whole bunch.

My son had to get his two front teeth extracted to prevent
further pain and to even prevent the spread of infection to the
rest of his body.

Extraction of things in our lives is often necessary but seldom
pleasant.

He had to be sedated, strapped down, and numbed.
He still hollered.

Eagles fly high but have you ever noticed eagles don't have a
lot of stuff strapped on their backs.

Some of us haven't reached the heights that we are destined to
reach because we haven't extracted some things.
It's too much on our backs and in our spirits.

You know what things they are.

As plain as I am writing this and as clear as you can see these
letters, you know what things in your life need extracting.
We all have them.

Extraction hurts but the continuing pain of decay hurts even
worse and for much longer.

I counsel quite a few people.

More often than not, they will have major problems by the time
they schedule counseling. As I listen to their situation I can
often see things or a different perspective on the thing that
they cannot. Many are helped through counsel.

Even though I can often see things that they cannot, most of the
stuff that they need to change, THEY ALREADY KNOW!

"I know I need to do this"
"I know I need to change that"
"I know this is wrong"
"I know I shouldn't feel this way"
"I know I should leave this relationship"
"I know this is not good"

"I know I should. . . "

Many already know the things in their life that need to be
extracted.

So do you.

The problem is not the knowledge in many instances.
It's the pain of extraction.

Pulling anything with deep roots is a problem.

The closer anyone is to the child and the further they are from
maturity, the more sedation, straps and numbing they will need.
A child will even endure the pain for months or years until the
tooth eventually falls out from the decay.

Often we endure the pain far longer than necessary until it
falls out and has nearly knocked us out.

Learn the lesson of extraction.

For though we may have far more good teeth,
This is a lesson we all need to know.

MountainWings.com is about helping lift you over the mountains
of life.

Sometimes what you need is not really a lift.
You just need to remove some things.

Just as a hot air balloon is mired to the ground with sandbags
often so are we.

It's not that we don't have the wind to fly,
we've just got too many sandbags.

Some need to be extracted and then we can fly.

Laugh for The Day:
This is a different type of extraction but the story illustrates
my point.

Minnetonka, MN 55345
Superior Health Insurance
ATTN: Claims Review
1423 W. 90th St.
New York, NY 05016

Dear Sir:

This letter is in response to your recent letter requesting a
more detailed explanation concerning my recent internment at
Methodist Hospital.

Specifically, you asked for an expansion in reference to Block
21(a)(3) of the claim form (reason for hospital visit). On the
original form, I put "Stupidity".

I realize now that this answer was somewhat vague and so I will
attempt to more fully explain the circumstances leading up to my
hospitalization.

I had needed to use the restroom and had just finished a quick
bite to eat at the local burger joint. I entered the bathroom,
took care of my business, and just prior to the moment in which
I had planned to raise my trousers, the locked case that
prevents theft of the toilet paper in such places came undone
and, feeling it striking my knee, unthinkingly, I immediately,
and with unnecessary force, returned the lid back to its normal
position.

Unfortunately, as I did this I also turned and certain parts of
my body, which were still exposed, were trapped between the
device's lid and its main body.

Feeling such intense and immediate pain caused me to jump back.

It quickly came to my attention that, when one's privates are
firmly attached to an unmovable object, it is not a good idea to
jump in the opposite direction.

Upon recovering some of my senses, I attempted to reopen the
lid. However, my slamming of it had been sufficient to allow
the locking mechanism to engage.

I then proceeded to get a hold on my pants and subsequently
removed my keys from them. I intended to try to force the lock
of the device open with one of my keys; thus extracting myself.

Unfortunately, when I attempted this, my key broke in the lock.
Embarrassment of someone seeing me in this unique position
became a minor concern, and I began to call for help in as much
of a calm and rational manner as I could.

An employee from the restaurant quickly arrived and decided that
this was a problem requiring the attention of the store manager.

Betty, the manager, came quickly. She attempted to unlock the
device with her keys. Since I had broken my key off in the
device, she could not get her key in.

Seeing no other solution, she called the EMS (as indicated on
your form in block 21(b)(1)).

After approximately 15 minutes, the EMS arrived, along with two
police officers, a fire-rescue squad, and the channel 4 "On-the-
Spot" news team. The guys from the fire department quickly took
charge as this was obviously a rescue operation.

The senior member of the team discovered that the device was
attached with bolts to the cement wall that could only be
reached once the device was unlocked. His discovery was by
means of tearing apart the device located in the
stall next to the one that I was in. (Since the value of the
property destroyed in his examination was less than $50 (my
deductible) I did not include it in my claim.)

His partner, who seemed like an intelligent fellow at the time,
came up with the idea of cutting the device from the wall with
the propane torch that was in the rescue truck.

The fireman went to his truck, retrieved the torch, and
commenced to attempt to cut the device from the wall. Had I
been in a state to think of such things, I might have realized
that in cutting the device from the wall several things would
also inevitably happen.

First, the air inside of the device would quickly heat up,
causing items inside the device to suffer the same effects that
are normally achieved by placing things in an oven.

Second, the metal in the device is a good conductor of heat
causing items that are in contact with the device to react as if
thrown into a hot skillet.

And, third, molten metal would shower the inside of the device
as the torch cut through.

The one bright note of the propane torch was that it did manage
to cut, in the brief time that I allowed them to use it, a hole
big enough for a small pry bar to be placed inside of the
device.

The EMS team then loaded me, along with the device, into the
waiting ambulance as stated on your form.

Due the small area of your block 21(a)(3), I was unable to give
a full explanation of these events, and thus used the word which
I thought best described my actions that led to my
hospitalization.

Sincerely,
S. Anderson

Now that people is an extraction.

Mountain Wings: Extraction

Extraction
===========

My young son had his two front teeth removed today.

It's amazing how much the lives of children parallel the lives
of adults.

Many of the same things they go through, adults go through.

The statement, "The only difference between men and boys is the
price of their toys" makes sense when you analyze the behavior
of men and boys.

My son had to go through an extraction.

His two front teeth had cavities. They had begun to hurt.

Something had to be done to ease the pain.

I talked with the dentist and he gave me two choices, fix them
or remove them.

I asked "what's the advantages and disadvantages of each?"

"If you repair the tooth and cap them, there is a 32% chance the
tooth will become infected and you will have to remove it, if
you remove it that ends it." the dentist said.

"Which is more traumatic on the child?" I asked.
"It's about the same either way," the dentist said.

Many times in life we have the same decision.

There is something rotten in our world.

We can try to fix it. That may work or it may not.

Sometimes the rotten things that we try to fix end up becoming
even more rotten and we have to remove them anyway.

We can decide to just remove them from the start and minimize
the future potential problems.

Everyone has some rotten teeth in their lives. We instantly
know which ones they are. By rotten teeth, I don't necessarily
mean teeth but things that are attached to us that have decayed
and in one form or another are causing us pain.

Those are rotten teeth.

Even when speaking about teeth, you know exactly how many bad
teeth you have don't you?

Answer the question, "How many bad teeth do you have?"

This next question about your teeth shows you the difference
between a Mountain climber and one that smacks into the
mountain.

"How many good teeth do you have?"

Huh?

I asked, "How many good teeth do you have?"

You don't know do you?

That's because the world teaches us to focus on the bad.

If you don't believe me, look at the evening news today. Count
the number of minutes devoted to bad news versus the number of
minutes devoted to good news. You will see what I mean.

That's why you don't know how many good teeth you have.

You know you are supposed to have 32 teeth but you have never
counted them for sure.

Maybe you've got a few extra teeth.
You don't know if you haven't counted them.

Stop right now and count your good teeth. . .

I'll continue the lesson on extraction tomorrow but I want you
to learn to consciously recognize the good things in your life
first, then I'll tell you the lesson of the extraction.

By the way. I have exactly 32 good teeth. Some are very crooked
but they work and they don't hurt. Some have had dental work but
they work and they don't hurt. Four have had root canals, but
they work and they don't hurt. They are good teeth but they
aren't perfect.

Count your good stuff today before the news comes on.

~A MountainWings Original~
I have 28 teeth,27 good teeth. I had my wisdom teeth removed and I
have one bad tooth right now. I have one front tooth that is a crown but
is a good tooth but one front tooth that is bad, actually, its gone! Its
ironic that this Mountain Wings message is written now. I have a missing
tooth, does not need to be extracted It fell completely out, nothing there,
so I need a tooth in its place. So, it does need major work. However, in
4 to 6 months I will be good as new. We all know that this message was not
totally about extracting teeth. We all need to look at the " good Teeth",
the good things, positive things we are thankful for. I am very grateful
for all I have despite the fact I have not had a very good 3 weeks of the
New Year. I will get over this bronchitis and will have a beautiful smile
again. It will take time and will involve some pain. Yet, as they say,no
pain,no gain, right? :) I still feel very fortunate to have a family and
friends who care about me, a home,a job and other things in my life. I am
sure if you reflect, you too, will find the " good teeth". Have a wonderful
day.

Today's KDD: Jeff's New Guide and Darrell's Classes

Today is Monday January 19 TH,at 11;28,

How are you all? Hope your doing great?

I am still sick, have viral Bronchitis, taking more medicine,

And yesterday the Arizona Cardinal's did win,

And will be in the Super Bowl but I don't care, not a football Fan

And Yesterday Jeff was given his new Dog spelled Dec LAN,

Pronounced Declin, he is a big boy,

Is 69 LBS and 25 Inches in Height,

And from what the Instructor said he is a yellow Lab, very white,

And has a cute little pink nose and his ears a darker shade,

And none of us know, if this is the right match, they made

For this is only the second day,

Today Training will be underway

This is When the real work does begin, the team has begun

And Jeff and Staff will know soon, prior to training being done,

Whether they are a good match for each other,

And his Daddy's name is Baker and his Mother,

Her name is Unique,

And if you want to go take a peek,

And look at Jeff's Blog,

Find out the Happenings of his day, see a pic of his new dog

Go to Jeff's new site,

And you can see what he does write.

Darrell and I are both off today,

And this evening music we will play,

On our show,

And back to classes Tomorrow, Darrell does go,

And I, at work, back to the Hotel

And wish soon I would feel well.

I am tired of coughing, having trouble breathing and all that stuff,

I had enough

And can't wait to have my oral surgery,

Get that out of the way,

Not really, not looking forward to it, quite nervous indeed,

A denture and implant I will need

Before all this is said and done

Not at all fun

I feel like Fang woman, and I don't want to smile,

And last night Darrell and I edited the audio file,

The sound clip Jeff sent to him,

And Darrell has had several Mobility lessons with his instructor Kim,

Brushing upon his travel skills and building his confidence,

Both Dog Guide School and Classes will be quite intense

For Jeff and Darrell, they both will do fine,

And Darrell is taking 13 credits this Semester, one on line,

And 3 classes in the Campus downtown,

Not here in town,

Not at the Main Campus, a mile from us

And he will take the light rail, not the bus.

He will be taking Spanish,PolliSCI ,2 classes in Journalism, he will be
quite busy,lots's to do,

Journalism Ethics and News Reporting and a Lab for Spanish too.

As I have said I will need much dental work,in the months ahead,

Here's some information I have red,

On the "Flipper", the Temporary Denture I will soon get,

Before my implant, Found the info on the net.

Well, its noon,

And have some housework to do and need to gather the tunes,

But, also need to rest,

That would be best,

Since I will have to work for the next 3 days, it will be a struggle
because I am not feeling alright,

And look at Jeff's blog and info I sent to my site,

Take good care,

And another time I will share,

What is happening for Darrell and me,

Yet for now, here is Today's KDD.

Mountain Wings: Closet Space

-------------------------------------------------
MountainWings A MountainWings Moment
#1038 Wings Over The Mountains of Life
-------------------------------------------------

CLOSET SPACE
=============

Is your closet too crowded?

Perhaps the single greatest indicator of the overload that we
have in life are closets.

They are packed.

It doesn't matter how big our closets are.

Sooner or later we fill them up.

Why?

There is a closet rule of life that states:

1. Clothes expand to fill all available closet space
2. Sooner or later if you keep getting more clothes
you either have to:
A. Get more closet space
B. Get rid of some clothes

2B is what we hate to do.

But if we are TO BE what we are TO BE,
we need to learn the rule of 2B and get rid of some clothes.

Time is like closet space. We have a limited amount of it.

We keep putting more and more things in until our time is
cluttered.

The more cluttered it gets, the more things are out of place.

The time that we should be sleeping, we've got something else in
that space.

The time that we should be spending with family, we've got
something else in that space.

The time that we should have to ourselves to do whatever we do
to help our spirit, we've got something else in that space.

Even as our closet hinges strain to keep from bursting, we still
try to put more stuff in.

Take a look around your closet of time right now.

How much has accumulated
that you should have gotten rid of long ago.

They still may be good clothes, but your closet is just too full.

We have habits that we formed in our teenage years
that should have long ago been removed from our closets.

Some even have friends that should have long ago been removed,
for they no longer fit our style or destination.

As you change and grow, you should change what's in your closet.

Maybe we don't need more stuff in the closet.

Maybe we don't need a bigger closet.

Maybe we just need to clean out some stuff
and not with the purpose to make room for more stuff.

We may just need some space,

In a lot of areas,

For a lot of reasons.

There is a spiritual saying
that tells you to go into your closet to pray.

For many of us, there's simply no room.

Go look at your bedroom closet right now.
Chances are, it will reflect your closet of time.

Mountain Wings: Thanks

Thanks
=======

Thanks for the help

I would like to thank those of you that have sent
encouraging words and submissions of materials
to MountainWings.com.

I would also like to thank those of you that said
you hated MountainWings.

Yes, there actually was one that said they hated
such stuff.

That gave me the full range in MountainWings that
you will experience in life.

Don't expect anything that you attempt to do to be
met with all adoration and praise.

Remember, it's the tough stuff that makes you strong.

There have been three types of responses to MountainWings.

1. Good 2. Bad 3. None

That also reflects what you get in life.

The second largest response to MountainWings has been positive.
The smallest group has been negative.

The largest group by far has said nothing.

Please don't respond to this issue, it would flood our e-mail
if everyone decided to say something now. This is just an
illustration of the way things will probably go in your life.

Most of the things in your life are neutral.
It is a blank canvas waiting for the paintbrush of your heart.
It is an empty sound waiting for your voice to fill it.

A lot of the things are great and beautiful.

A few are hateful and nasty.

Most are waiting on you to define it.

Understand that in the material world it takes an opposite to
define a thing.

You wouldn't know cold without hot.
Soft without hard
Dry without wet
Light without dark
Easy without difficult
Love without hate
Peace without war
Health without sickness
Prosperity without want
Joy without sadness

Yes, I am thankful for the one that hated MountainWings,
For that one marks the extreme of darkness
That makes the light shine brighter
It makes those of you who love it, all the more precious.

What do you want to paint today?

Today's KDD: Infected Sinus's and missing Teeth

Today is Thursday January 15 TH at 4;51,
The last two days, have not been great, not fun,
How are you all?,hope your fine?,
and did you hear about Flight 1549?
The aircraft that made a safe landing in the Hudson river, all 150 did
survive, that is a miracle, I am sure you agree,
and this has not been a good week for me.

As I had told you, have had a cold, a sinus infection, and a cough that
would not go away,
and then I spent time at the Dentist office today.
Last night a cookie I ate,
it was tooth number 8,
my front center ones, one of my crowns,
Went to a Dentist herein town.

I broke it completely off all of it,
and about 2 hours in the Dentist chair I did sit.

I will need oral surgery,
Today, all they could do is make the mold, I will need a temporary
denture, an implant,
Here, at her office, they can't,
do everything that is needed,
The surgeon will have to remove the root, from what she had said.

The oral surgery will likely be next week for me,
by the time this is all over, in the Spring it will be,
will have to wait for my mouth to heel, then make a temporary crown, then a
permanent one,
I will sure be glad when all this work is done.!

Its now 6 o'clock, have to gather more tracks for the show tomorrow night,
so,not muchmore I will write.

We are filling in for Jeff, we don't want the Desert Skies to be Dark,
and all this Dental work I will have, wil be no picnic in the park
I have to go work tomorrow with a missing front tooth not good,
I'd go sooner, if I could
I will write again another time
until then, hope you all are fine.

Today's KDD: Guide Puppies,VR Streams and Light Rails

Its Monday January TH, 5 in the evening,

And I know doses lately you have not seen,

I guess, for awhile now my creativity did disappear

And nothing much has been going on over here.

I am just working, getting over a cold, this cough I can't shake,

And Tonight Barbecue Chicken I will make.

Darrell likes that kind of chicken

Loves it fried and when barbecue, for it to be stickin.

He has been taking O & M to improve his travel skills

We have been cleaning house, visiting with friends and paying bills.

Our Friend Jen and her Mom came for a visit this weekend, we had fun,

and after this, Dinner will be done.

Jen is someone Darrell knows from his past and we are all good
friends, unusual ,for us all its a good thing,

and the light rail is in full swing.

WE all took a trip on it yesterday,on the train and got coffee at the
Coffee Plantation,

only went to a couple stations.

I think we will like it,I hope most will,

We walked the streets near Mill,

were able to sit and chat, catch up with each other,

and spent some time with both her and her Mother.

We also have had a rehab teacher come and assist here at the house to help
us be more organized,

And will be baking potatoes with the chicken not fries.

For 2 weeks Darrell has been using our Light Rail; the system is brand New,

And today would have been my Topper's Birthday, but he passed away back
in August of 2002.

He was my first fur baby, was a Black Lab adore

And when I get my next that will be number 4

He was very sweet, gentle, loving and protective,

Till 15 he did live.

He was an excellent guide, but had separation anxiety big time,

And how are you all?, hope your fine?

Speaking of Guide dogs, been thinking about them all a lot these days

Each personality, guide work, and how they did play.

I still feel very sad that our friend, Cinda passed away,

on January Third,

This news you may have heard,

If you had red the last KDD

Or you can go to Jeff's new blog, and there about her you will see

It is a wonderful tribute to Jascinda puppy, his third Dog,

And it will be interesting to see what he does with his new blog.

Jeff will be going to GBD on Saturday,

For 3 weeks he will be away,

To get his new pup, its very exciting indeed, yet so bitter sweet,

He will feel energized but also beat.

Darrell is gaining more confidence and exposure to crossing streets,
taking busses and the train,

And lately we have-not had any rain.

He is having fun but thoroughly exhausted when he is through ,

Yet, knows this is something good for him to do.

My new VR Stream Darrell bought me I am trying to learn,

And in February Jeff will return,

Though new technology is a challenge for me, its all pretty cool,

And next Monday, Darrell begins his classes, back at school.

The VR stream is very nice,

a wonderful little device,

can listen to books,in text ,from NLS,

Material from the Library of Congress, and as well as Audio

listen to MP3's and take brief notes on it,

in the blind community its a big hit.

its almost dinner time, so have to go,

and Our apologies we are not doing our show

The Desert Café

I just have to work for the next 4 days

Had a busy weekend ,

But, we will be back next week my friend.

For now, take good care, have a great night,

And another time I will write.

Mountain Wings: You are Beautiful

-------------------------------------------------
MountainWings A MountainWings Moment
#1014 Wings Over The Mountains of Life
-------------------------------------------------

You Are Beautiful
==================

You are beautiful. . .

It's a phrase that my mother uses a lot.

I used to wonder, "How in the world can Mother call them
beautiful?"

I am a logical, statistical man.
I call things as I see them.
I didn't see beauty.

My mother would tell people this with an enthusiasm they
could feel. She was genuine. She wasn't telling them they
were beautiful to get something from them. Most of the
time, they were trying to get something from her.

I wondered for years what was wrong with Mother's perception and
vision. Couldn't she see that all of the people she called beautiful,
weren't beautiful?

You were beautiful only if you had a certain figure and face
that was classed as beautiful by the laws of the world and
glamour. Yet when my mother spoke, people smiled as though
Glamour magazine had listed them as one of the beautiful people
of the year.

It took me years to finally understand my mother's vision
and the phrase, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

My mother had a spirit that could see the beauty in a person.

Most only look on the outside and then compare what they
see with the standards the world has given them.

That was what I was doing.

Today when you leave your house, carefully look at the first
person whom you see and notice how beautiful they are.

They may be balding, fat, wrinkled, pimply, or any of the
other things the world frowns upon as beauty.

Look at them closely and look for the beauty.

If you really look, you'll see it.

I didn't believe that at first until I tried it.
Sure enough, as I stared and opened another set of eyes,
I was able to see the beauty in every person.
No matter how rough or worn a person looked,
each pain etched line held a glimpse of beauty.

You just had to look for the beauty. It's there.

When you leave your home this morning, look hard at each
person. You will start to see the beauty of every human who
you didn't know existed. Trust me and try this.
If you sincerely look, you will see it.

When you get home after seeing the beauty in faces you see,
look in the mirror.

You are beautiful.

Thank you mama for all of the beauty that you have not only
seen, but added.

Mountain Wings: Fear of the Thing

-------------------------------------------------
MountainWings A MountainWings Moment
#1012 Wings Over The Mountains of Life
-------------------------------------------------

Fear of The Thing
==================

I originally thought that I would need to "borrow" a lot of
material from different sources. I didn't realize that life
would present a new opportunity each day to climb a mountain.

I will still pull from the best and others will help author and
edit MountainWings but life does present new challenges each
day.

In a previous issue I told you how my two young sons had strep
throat. http://www.mountainwings.com/past/1011.htm
This is the day after I wrote that issue.

Today my wife called and said the doctor told her that she and I
needed to come get tested for strep throat. The doctor said
that it was possible, even likely that we both had it. They had
to make sure that we didn't give it back to the kids once they
were cured.

Strep throat is not a big thing. It's common and in most cases
easily cured. The test is just two simple cotton swab (Q-Tips)
swipes taken from the back of your throat. Granted it is a very
long cotton swab.

My throat had been feeling fine until my wife told me that I had
to take the test and that I might have strep throat. The
thought that I could have latent strep throat germs raging in
the back of my mouth made me uneasy. Did I feel a slight
itchiness now?

It's amazing how the mind works.

Believe it, fear it, and the body begins to manifest it.

I actually thought my throat did feel different now that I had
to go take the test. My logical mind knew my throat was fine
but the mere thought. . . was it scratchy?

I can imagine how it must feel to wait on test results for
something really serious. If it were cancer or a suspected
exposure to AIDS that I was being tested for my slight
apprehension would be magnified a hundred fold.

Apprehension leads to tension. Tension leads to distress.
Distress leads to stress and stress leads to disease.

Both my wife's and my tests were negative but today I got a
glimpse into the fearful world of apprehension.

Job (a character in the Bible) said, "What I feared has come
upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me."

Germs don't really cause disease.
An immune system that is weaker than the germ causes disease.
Fear weakens the immune system. The very thought helps to
manifest the thing, whether it be good or bad.

Situations in life don't break us or make us miserable.
When we come across a situation that our spirit is not strong
enough to properly handle, then that situation makes us
miserable because our spiritual immune system is weak.

After the nurse administered the strep throat test she said,
"you know, you're the calmest person that I have ever given this
test to. People squirm, gag and sometimes scream."

That amazed me. It was just a cotton swab. A very long cotton
swab I will admit, yes, it was stuck very far back into your
throat, but just a cotton swab nonetheless.

Most of the things that gag us, make us squirm, and sometimes
even makes scream out in frustration, if looked at from the
mountain, are really just long cotton swabs.

They won't hurt you.

They may scratch at you in sensitive areas but the vast majority
won't hurt you. Often they make you stronger and more confident
when you successfully get past them.

Don't be afraid of the tests of life.

You are healthier than you think.

Or maybe, just maybe, you are AS healthy as you think.

Laugh for the Day:
------------------
There was a little old lady who was nearly blind, and she had
three sons who wanted to prove which one was the best to her.

Son #1 bought her a 15-room mansion, thinking this would surely
be the best that any of them could offer her.

Son #2 bought her a beautiful Mercedes with a chauffeur
included, thinking this would surely win her approval.

Son #3 had to do something even better, so he bought her a
parrot that he had been training for 15 years to memorize the
entire Bible. You could ask the parrot any verse in the Bible,
and he could quote it word for word. What a gift that would be.

Well, the old lady went to the first son and said, "Son, the
house is just gorgeous, but it's really much too big for me.
I only live in one room, and it's too large to clean and take
care of. I really don't need the house, but thank you anyway."

Then she confronted her second son with, "Son, the car is
beautiful. It has everything you could ever want on it, but I
don't drive and really don't like the chauffeur, so please
return the car."

Next, she went to Son #3 and said,
"Son, I just want to thank you for your most thoughtful gift.
That chicken was delicious."

Mountain Wings: Sweet Facts

-------------------------------------------------
MountainWings A MountainWings Moment
#1010 Wings Over The Mountains of Life
-------------------------------------------------

Sweet Facts
============

Do you know what the number one candy in America is?

What sells the most?

What package of confectionary delight satisfies the sweet tooth
of more Americans than any other?

You probably don't know.

This is just one of those interesting facts that I will throw in
from time to time. You never know what to expect from
MountainWings. If you did, you wouldn't get that little boost
every day.

Remember, an Eagle never has the same air under its wings.
So it is with life, there is something different each day.

So it is with MountainWings.

So what is the number one candy in the U.S.?

I would have said Mr. Goodbars if you had asked me before I knew
the answer. I like Mr. Goodbars. They are full of fat and
sugar, which are not very healthy, but I like them anyway.

Does that sound familiar to you?

Does that sound like you?

Liking something that you know is not good for you.

You probably think Snickers or some other candy bar is number
one.

No. Actually, it's not a candy bar at all.

It's M&M's. M&M's are the number one selling candy in America.

"So what," you say,

"What's it to me if M&M's are the number one candy?"

You can often learn a lesson from number one.
Number one more often than not has done something right,
something very right. No matter what the business,
number one's have found and adhered to sound principles.

So what did M&M do?

They solved a need.

The rumor is that M&M's were developed so that soldiers could
eat candy without getting their hands sticky. Soldiers weren't
the only ones who needed to keep their hands clean while eating
candy. Your hands can get awful messy eating a Mr. Goodbar on a
warm day. You know the slogan,

"Melts in Your Mouth, Not in Your Hand."
You don't get messy hands with M&M's.

You would have thought that the best tasting candy would have
been number one. No, it's the candy that doesn't mess up your
hands.

M&M's are the only candy on the Presidential Jet, Air Force One.
The number one man in the country eats the number one candy.

The business principle is this:
Fill a genuine need and people will buy your product.
Every problem has inherent within it a product that provides a
solution. Even religion is like that.
It promises to solve problems.

If you are in business or wish to be, learn to look at the
problems of life as potential best selling products. All you
have to do is identify the solution and figure out how to
package it.

There are greater problems in life than sticky fingers. You may
have the answer to one of them that is a potential top seller.

Now isn't that a sweet thought?

I Made A Misteak
================

So, I made a mistake.

Mistakes happen. Not only do they happen, they are guaranteed.

My father used to say, the only way you won't make mistakes is
if you don't do anything, and that itself is a mistake.

Too many are afraid to try something new because they feel they
might make an error. They are both right and wrong. Yes, they
will probably make errors but it is good to understand that
errors go with the territory.

You will never accomplish great or worthwhile things without
risk and risk generally means great mistake potential.

You are probably reading this by light bulbs invented by Thomas
Edison. He made over a thousand light bulbs that didn't work.
The world would have called them mistakes. He said he learned a
thousand ways not to make a light bulb.

The way to avoid mistakes is experience.
The way to get experience - Mistakes.

Don't feel bad because you messed up with something.
Don't be afraid to venture out into a good thing because you are
afraid that you might mess up.

While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, another is
busy making mistakes and becoming superior.

An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be

Mountain Wings: One Voice

MountainWings A MountainWings Moment
#1005 Wings Over The Mountains of Life
-------------------------------------------------

One Voice
==========

My wife and I are away on a retreat.

We decided to go to the hotel gym for a workout. The gym was
ultramodern and we were the only ones there. There were five
TV's positioned over the treadmills and exercycles.

She wanted to watch a cooking show.
I wanted to watch a sci-fi program.

She got on the last treadmill on the left, I got on the last
treadmill on the right and we both tuned to different channels.

As we began to run, we both periodically got off the treadmill
to turn up the respective volumes on our TV's. After a few
minutes, both of our televisions were at full volume.

We had clear pictures but the cacophony of noise made it almost
impossible to understand the story.

I now understood why all of the televisions were tuned to the
same channel when we arrived. Too many voices cause you to
misstep and not understand the story.

If you are running (or walking) alongside someone in life, the
story will go a lot smoother if both of you have the same vision
and hear the same sound. When you are on different channels you
both get louder but hear less.

I turned my television off.

Cooking wasn't so bad.

After all, I would benefit from the meals.

Are you on the same channel as the one that you have chosen to
walk through life with?

Let those couples that have eyes see and that have ears hear.

Laugh for the day:

A farmer got pulled over by a state trooper for speeding, and
the trooper started to lecture the farmer about his speed, and
in general began to throw his weight around to try to make the
farmer uncomfortable.

Finally, the trooper got around to writing out the ticket, and
as he was doing that he kept swatting at some flies that were
buzzing around his head.

The farmer said, "Having some problems with circle flies there,
are ya?"

The trooper stopped writing the ticket and said--"Well yeah, if
that's what they are--I never heard of circle flies."

So the farmer says--"Well, circle flies are common on farms.
See, they're called circle flies because they're almost always
found circling around the back end of a horse."

The trooper says, "Oh," and goes back to writing the ticket.
Then after a minute he stops and says,
"Hey...wait a minute, are you trying to call me a horses a.. ?"

The farmer says, "Oh no, officer. I have far too much respect
for law enforcement and police officers to even think about
calling you a horses a.."

The trooper says, "Well, that's a good thing," and goes back to
writing the ticket.

After a long pause, the farmer says, "Hard to fool them flies
though."

Moral of the story: Be kind to others, rudeness and arrogance
shows.

Mountain Wings: The list

The List
=========

"Too many of us are hung up on what we don't have, can't have,
or won't ever have. We spend too much energy being down,
when we could use that same energy if not less of it doing,
or at least trying to do, some of the things we really want to do."
--Terry McMillan

What do YOU really want to do?

Not what your friends want but what do you really want to do?

When you ask that question the list will have some good things
and some bad things on it.

One of the simplest ways to determine which ones you should
pursue is to ask the simple question,

"Which one of these things would make mama proud?"

Whatever is on THAT list, consider pursing them.

Laugh of the Day:

Two buddies were out for a Saturday stroll. One had a
Doberman and the other had a Chihuahua. As they sauntered
down the street, the guy with the Doberman said to his friend,
"Let's go over to that bar and get something to drink."

The guy with the Chihuahua said, "We can't go in there. We've
got dogs with us."

The one with the Doberman said, "Just follow my lead."
They walked over to the bar and the guy with the Doberman put on
a pair of dark glasses and started to walk into the bar.

The bouncer at the door said, "Sorry, Mac, no pets allowed."

The man with the Doberman said, "You don't understand. This
is my Seeing-Eye dog."

The bouncer said, "A Doberman pinscher?"

The man said, "Yes, they're using them now. They're very good."

The bouncer said, "OK then, come on in."

The buddy with the Chihuahua figured he'd try it too so he
put on a pair of dark glasses and started to walk into the
bar. He knew his story would be a bit more unbelievable. Once
again the bouncer said, "Sorry, pal, no pets allowed."

The man with the Chihuahua said, "You don't understand. This
is my Seeing-Eye dog."

The bouncer said, "A Chihuahua?"

The man with the Chihuahua said, "A Chihuahua?!?
A Chihuahua?!? They gave me a Chihuahua!!!

Today's KDD: Happy New Year and Cinda Puppy

Its almost 4 on Monday January Five,

And in 3 hours Darrell and I will be live,

In the Desert Café,

Inspirational and fun music we will play

To give you hope in this New Year,

And I know, no KDD's have been posted here.

I don't write as much these days,

I hope it is all a phase?

I had written every day, sometimes several, the creativity then flew

Now, at this time, this, I am just unable to do. ,

I am not sure where the creativity went?

And hope your Holiday's were spent,

With friends and Family,

It was just Darrell and me.

Our Christmas and New Years were quiet but good. nothing to write home
about, to tell,

And lately, I haven't been well,

Have been ill, have had a bad cold, almost bronchitis, for the last week or
so,

That is why I was not in the café, did not do the show,

With Darrell last week, last Monday night,

Just been working, not in the frame of mind to write.

The Holiday Season has come and gone, its now 2009,

Hope you're all doing fine?

Wish you all Good Health and Happiness,

The best. that your goals you do achieve,

And hoping more KDD's you will receive.

I am not going to make resolutions, most can't be kept, will make goals for
me, myself and I,

And they I will try,

Do think, them, I will obtain,

And for over a month now, we have gotten much rain.

Work has been very slow,

For Occupancy has been low

Yet, business will pick up in weeks ahead,

And no books lately I have red,

But, plan on doing so on the stream, that Darrell did get,

Me. And on January 7 Th, was the day we first met,

Fourteen years ago,

And I heard in New England last week, they had 2 feet of snow.

Mountain Wings: Can't we all just get along?

-------------------------------------------------

Can't We All Just Get Along?
============================

"This may be silly but could you please say a prayer for
my family to get along this Christmas? They have a problem of
always fussing and making rude remarks towards each other."

The above is a MountainWings Prayer Request

We are praying for families to "get along" this Christmas in the
true spirit of peace and love.

Although world peace is important,
true peace begins at home.

Bedrooms are more important than Baghdad,
for as the families go,
so goes the nations.

Remember, YOU can be the person who makes sure that at least YOU
show the true spirit of Christmas to everyone in the family.

Mountain Wings: The Truth About Santa Claus

MountainWings A MountainWings Moment
#8354 Wings Over The Mountains of Life
-------------------------------------------------

The Truth About Santa Claus
============================

I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma.
I was just a kid.

I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her on the
day my big sister dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus,"
she jeered. "Even dummies know that!"

My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to
her that day because I knew she would be straight with me.

I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth
always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of
her "world-famous" cinnamon buns. I knew they were world-famous,
because Grandma said so. It had to be true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites,
I told her everything. She was ready for me.

"No Santa Claus?" She snorted... "Ridiculous! Don't believe it.
That rumor Has been going around for years, and it makes me mad,
plain mad! Now, put On your coat, and let's go."

"Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished my
second world-famous cinnamon bun.

"Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store
in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we
walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That
was a bundle in those days. "Take this money," she said, "and
buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in
the car." Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.

I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my
mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself.
The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to
finish their Christmas shopping. For a Few moments I just
stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill,
wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for.

I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my Friends, my
neighbors, the kids at school, and the people who went to my
church.

I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby
Decker. He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he
sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class.

Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never
went out to recess during the winter. His mother always wrote
a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we
kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough; he didn't have
a good coat. I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing
excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!

I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it.
It looked real warm, and he would like that.

"Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the
counter asked Kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down.

"Yes, ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby."

The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really
needed a Good winter coat. I didn't get any change, but she put
the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag
fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in
Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa
Claus" on it. Grandma said that Santa always insisted on
secrecy. Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker's house,
explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially,
one of Santa's Helpers. Grandma parked down the street from
Bobby's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the
bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All
right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going."

I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the
present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to
the safety of the bushes and Grandma. Together we waited
breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open.
Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent
shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes. That
night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus
were just what Grandma said they were: Ridiculous.

Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.
I still have The Bible, with the coat tag tucked inside:
$19.95.

Petwarmers: A puppy for Christmas

Jim Willis gives us an interesting perspective about giving
pets for Christmas. For a variety of reasons, it's not always a good
idea. Families need to be prepared and have the resources to
properly care for a new family member.
You'll want to see the way he presents this point of view.

___________________________________________

A PUPPY FOR CHRISTMAS
by Jim Willis

As Santa loaded his magic sack,
filled with gifts for girls and boys,
he added candy and sugar plums,
and batteries for moving toys.

At the top of the sack he carefully packed
the most special gift of all,
a darling pup for a boy named Timmy,
who from the sack tried to crawl.

Santa turned the puppy around,
he righted him right side up,
'cause there's no more precious cargo,
than a precocious, bright-eyed pup.

As he made his appointed rounds
and down Timmy's chimney slid,
he discovered all the sack havoc --
what the blessed pup had done undid!

Santa looked around the room,
it was clear this family was poor.
He noticed the shabbiness everywhere,
and their poverty he couldn't ignore.

He waved his arms and a tree appeared,
adorned by blinking lights.
He sneezed and holly boughs were hung,
he created a Christmas sight.

Then Santa took to worrying about
a home whose ends wouldn't meet,
and whether it would be fair to anyone,
when a pup needs a lot to eat.

He scratched his head and knitted his brow,
accustomed to granting any child's wish,
and the puppy, grown impatient,
jumped up and gave Santa a kiss.

Santa sat down with pen in hand
and he wrote the following note.
He considered each word, thought long
and hard about every sentence he wrote.

"Dear Timmy, you are a splendid lad,
and I hoped to fill your request,
but for the animals of this world,
they each only deserve the best.

"One day you'll grow to understand
that not every wish may come true,
but I know there's a dog in your future,
who will love the best of you.

"The time right now was not to be,
I hope my other gifts make you smile.
One day you'll be a fine young man,
but for a dog, you must wait a while.

"You see, a dog needs more than love,
he'll have needs, mostly your company.
You've yet a lot of growing to do,
and a dog's needs, I hope you'll see."

Santa sighed as he folded the note
and the pup again pawed Santa's knee.
Santa patted the puppy's head,
lost in thought, absentmindedly.

The puppy worried about something amiss,
and whether he'd have a home.
Perhaps with someone to love him for life --
maybe love with toys and a bone?

Santa looked into the little dog's eyes
in those eyes, love plain to see.
He said, "I've always wanted a dog myself,
and you'll be coming home with me!"

Jim says, "The point of my poem, of course, is that animals do not
make appropriate holiday gifts. Animals are at risk from holiday
confusion, guests, unsupervised children, and holiday decorations.
NEVER purchase a puppy or kitten from a pet shop or a "backyard
breeder." It is much better to give all the gifts a pet will need
like supplies, toys, bed, and even a gift certificate for veterinary
care, to help the gift recipient make a sensible and informed choice
in selecting a (preferably rescued or shelter!) pet soon after." You

Heartwarmers: Forgiven Debts

The best thing to happen to mornings since the Sun!

Your morning thought for the day:
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness
is the attribute of the strong.
-- Mahatma Gandhi

It's always a pleasure to read a story that restores your
confidence in people. Christmas and New Year's is a time of renewal
and hope. It's a time to forgive and forget. It's a time when some
outstanding debts are forgiven.
Today, you'll enjoy this real life story from Susan.
FORGIVEN DEBTS
by Susan Lemckert

It was about a week before Christmas.
My three daughters and I headed out one night to the University
Place Hallmark store. While in the parking lot, I asked the girls to
please wait in the car long enough for me to get my checkbook and
wallet in order.
The wind suddenly picked up and rocked the van. Snowflakes
started falling. It was magical to see snow glistening under the
street lights in the parking lot. Now it felt like Christmas!
Hannah, the front seat passenger, slowly squeezed the door
handle. Instantly, a blast of cold air shot into the van, flinging
the passenger door wide open and smacking it into a black Volvo
parked next to us.
Hannah screamed in horror and jumped in the back seat.
I got out and looked at the Volvo's damaged door. It was no
ding -- it was more like a foot long gash. I came back inside the
van and assessed the damages with the girls. Hannah was still
crying. I assured her it was an accident but that we were still
responsible for the damage. We waited awhile in the car, looking at
each shopper return to their car. Nobody went to the black Volvo
next to us.
After about 20 minutes, we went inside Hallmark asking if anyone
drove a black Volvo with Georgia license plates. Nobody claimed a
black Volvo. I saw a police officer walking his beat on the sidewalk
near the store. I explained to him what had happened. He laughed
and said, "Most people would drive off. If you want, you could leave
a note."
After digging through my pocketbook, I found a piece of paper
and wrote. "The wind blew my van door into your right back passenger
door and damaged it. We waited for the owner of the car to return
for quite some time. I am sorry to have damaged your car. Susan."
I also left my phone number.
With that, I lifted the windshield wiper on the Volvo and placed
my confession underneath it.
"There goes Christmas," I thought as we drove home. My husband
told the girls we did the right thing to leave a note. With a sick
feeling in our stomachs we wondered how much the repairs would be on
the Volvo. My husband guestimated several hundreds of dollars.
Each time the phone rang, my heart raced wondering if it was a
response to the Volvo. A day passed and no response. I wondered if
perhaps the wind blew my note off the windshield. Did the person
ever get my confession?
One afternoon, there was a message on my answering machine.
"Hi, Susan. This is Tom Rodgowski. You left a message on my
windshield. I really appreciate your honesty about my car. I will
get a few estimates and get back with you. And, thanks, again, for
your honesty."
Another day went by. Another message was left on my answering
machine. This time it said, ì Hi, Susan. This is Tom Rodgowski. I
got two estimates to repair the door on the Volvo. One was $700 and
the other was, I think, rather high, $1,200. I will try calling you
again and let you know what I have decided."
My husband was home the next time Tom called. They agreed on
the $700 amount to repair the damaged Volvo door. My husband agreed
to meet Tom with a check at Caribou Coffee on Mallard Creek Church
Road the next day.
Wearing his Willie Claus Santa Hat (a mix between Santa Claus
and Willie Nelson with white braids), my husband set out with all
three daughters to meet Mr. Rodgowski and deliver the check. My
husband said Tom was a nice man, wished him a Merry Christmas and
apologized for the inconvenience we might have caused by damaging his
car.
Several days later another message was on my answering machine.
"Hello. This is Tom Rodgowski. I cashed in a few favors due me
and got my car fixed at no charge. I am returning your check in the
mail. Happy holidays."
We were so shocked to get a message like that! Was it real?
Well, the next day we got the check back in the mail from Tom.
I thought about Christmas and how a gift was given to us and how a
debt was forgiven.

WHAT CHRISTMAS IS NOT ABOUT
by Freda Fullerton

Christmas is not about presents
under the tree that we find,
It's about loving and giving and
being kind.

Christmas is not about sleigh bells,
and new fallen snow,
It's about caring for
the folks that we know.

Christmas is not about turkey and stuffing
and my favorite pie,
It's about the most wonderful gift
that comes from on high.

Christmas is not about getting
the newest fashion or toy,
It's about service, with
thanksgiving and joy.

Christmas is not about calling it...
"The Holiday Season,"
But keeping in mind,
that Christ is the reason.

Guide Dogs,Twas the night before Christmas

Hi Everyone,

Jeff forward me this last week. It was sent to him from one of the
Members of the " Buddy" guide Dog list. Jeff, Thank you for sharing it with
me and hope its okay for me to post it here? This is great, love it! Very
cute. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to share it with you all in case you
haven't seen it yet. Also forgot to mention in tonight's KDD,Keri made
Dougie a Dog bed. Its very soft and has a pattern of puppies lying down.
Dougie loves it, finds it very comfortable and snugly warm . Thanks Keri!
Need to run, things to do and bedtime. I work Tomorrow. take care and
look below.

Guide Dogs' Night Before Christmas.

Twas the night before Christmas and the kennels were still,

with most dogs now asleep having eaten their fill.

The Labradors sprawled out, quite snug in their beds,

while visions of ANYTHING edible danced in their heads.

sthe Goldens and Shepherds curled up on the floor,

some twitched in their sleep and some even did snore.

The dog food was stacked in the feed room with care,

in hopes that a trainer soon would be there.

On the window ledge, one of the kennel cats lay,

surveying the lawn at the end of this day.

Something was different, that little cat knew.

Tonight something would happen, it had to be true.

For that day as the workers had left to go home,

They'd wished Merry Christmas! before starting to roam.

The dogs had noticed it to during this past week's walks,

the trainers seemed just that much happier and eager to talk.

In the mall where they worked through the maze of people and stores,

there were decoration and music and distractions galore!

Most dogs pranced along without worry or fear,

but some balked at the man on the sleigh and those fake looking

deer.

The cat was almost asleep too when he first heard the sound,

a whoosh through the air and a jingle around.

It reminded him of a dog's collar when the animal shook,

but this sound kept on growing. He'd better go look.

From the ceiling there came a faint sort of thunk,

as the kennel cat climbed to the highest pile of junk.

Once before people had worked on the roof,

and come down through the trap door to a chorus of "Woooof!"

But the dogs still were quiet, all sleeping so sound,

as this man dressed in red made his way right on down.

He patted the cat as he climbed past his spot,

then made his way right to the trainers' coffee pot.

A shepherd sat up, not fully awake,

then a Golden followed her with a mighty loud shake.

That did it! All the dogs sprang to life with loud noise.

In spite of the din, the old man kept his poise.

He filled the pot full and it started to brew,

then he pulled up a chair and took in the view.

Dogs all around him, so carefully bred,

he knew well their jobs, the blind people they led.

Some had stopped barking and looked at him now,

while others delighted in their own deafening howl.

Laying a finger in front of his lips,

the jolly old man silenced the excitable yips.

"You all may not know me, but I'm Santa Claus,"

the old man smiled and took a short pause,

While he filled up his mug with hot liquid and cream,

"I've always wanted to stop here. It's been one of my dreams."

The cat had climbed down and was exploring Santa's sack.

"Yes, little kitty, that's an empty pack."

Santa smiled as he drank and looked at those eyes,

deep brown ones and gold ones held wide in surprise.

Some of these dogs, he'd seen just last year,

in their puppy homes, cute and full of holiday cheer.

He'd seen the effects of a pup on the tree,

but now they were here at the school, just waiting to be.

"I didn't bring you presents or bones just to chew.

I'll tell you something better, what you are going to do."

"You all will work hard and the trainers will share,

both praise and correction, gentle and fair."

"You'll go lots of places and face big scary things.

You'll ride buses and subways and hear fire sirens ring."

"Cars will drive at you but you will stand strong,

not moving into danger, not moving toward wrong."

"And then just when you think that this trainer's the best,

the kindest, and funnest person, toss away all the rest,"

"That trainer will begin to ignore you and give you away,

handing your leash over despite your dismay."

"Now the person who pets you and feeds you will be

a blind person. That's a person who can't see."

" This man or this woman may see just a tad,

but their view's missing parts or the focus is bad."

"So you, well trained dogs, will act as their eyes.

You will work as a team and discover the size"

"Of this great world we live in, because you will go

a million new places with this person, you know."

Santa sipped at his coffee and looked over the brood,

knowing what he had to say next might sound kind of rude.

"Not all of you will make it and become canine guides.

Your time here isn't wasted though. You won't be cast aside."

"Some of you will be drug dogs and some will find bombs.

Some will become pets in a home with a dad and a mom."

"All these things are important. People wait on long lists,

to receive such good dogs as you, the school folks insist."

The last drop of coffee had gone into his cup

as Santa turned, smiling at each wide eyed pup.

"The best gift of all is to give something back.

That's why there's nothing for you all inside of my pack."

Draining his mug, Santa went to each pen,

and petted and scratched each dog again and again.

"Now next year and many more years after that,

you all will give gifts wherever you're at."

"You might lick a hand that's had a bad day,

Or notice a car and step out of the way."

"You might help catch a crook or discover some loot,

Or just bring some joy to a tired old man in a funny red suit."

"Your master will love you and treat you with care.

In return, your training and trust will always be there."

After the last dog had been petted and soothed,

Santa put away the coffee pot and made ready to move.

Up the ladder he rose to the door high above,

with a smile and a wave as he slipped on his gloves.

And all the dog ears were pricked as he disappeared out of sight.

"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Good Night!"

Today's KDD: Christmas Shopping and Celebrating Christmas with Jeff and Keri

Its Monday December 15 TH at the 5 O'clock Hour,

I just took a shower,

And wearing the soft silky PJ's I recently got and watching a Christmas
Movie on the Lifetime Movie Channel,

My Favorite fabrics are velvet, satin, silk and flannel.

Here light and steady rain does fall,

And how is everything with you all?

I have been extremely busy so that is why much I have not written,

Have been either working or here I have been sitten,

Ordering gifts online,

For our family and friends of Darrell and mine.

As you know Christmas shopping can be a difficult task,

trying to find things that people do ask,

For. Or choosing items that you think someone will appreciate,

Since I don't have the ability to create,

Things by hand, like some people I know,

And back home I can not go,

Due to the fact I have to work again this year,

I made several attempts to select for those we hold dear.

Despite the fact it consumes much time,

I really enjoy Christmas shopping on line,

Especially for our Nephew and niece's who live far away,

They will be excited on Christmas day,

When all the gifts they will open, even the older kids as well,

While I serve our guests at the hotel.

It also gives me much pleasure choosing stuff for the adults too

Yet, relieved when it's all through. Lol

I am definitely not a Scrooge or the Grinch, rather Mrs. Claus,

Because I think of everyone whom I am close too, even those with fur, a
tail and paws.

It would be best to send some people, gift certificates, that way they can
choose something they would prefer,

If you're short for time or not sure

What they like, need or can use,

He or she can choose.

Anyway, that is why nothing recently has been posted to my site,

And also will miss having a Christmas that is white,

And spending time with my family,

But glad you all get to read another KDd.

Darrell and I had an opportunity to hang out with one of our extended
Families this weekend,

With the Bishops we did spend.

WE celebrated the Holidays with Jeff and Keri,

Hung out and said, hope you have a Wonderful Christmas that is joyful
and Merry.

Twas 2 weeks before Christmas and Tucson we did go,

It was chilly, but not cold enough to snow.

On Friday the Shuttle we did take,

Arrived 2 hours later with one suitcase, a backpack and a Tupperware of
cookies I did bake.

Friday afternoon we just relaxed and Keri, Darrell and I enjoyed the
quiet,

And happy I did not have to be at work at Hyatt.

In the evening Keri served Pot Roast made in the crockpot,

And Jeff did another Christmas Desert Skies show; Darrell discussed the
gadget he bought,

And they both demonstrated it, The WIND as well as his talking Moble GEO
software,

And they also did share,

How much I love leather,

And the weather,

How much Jeff dislikes snow, that white stuff soft and cold to the touch

And Keri made homemade lemonade we all liked very much.

The next Morning, we lounged around, did nothing much at all,

And then in the afternoon, Keri and I did not go to the Mall,

But to the WalMart and petsmart, Groceries and toys for Dougie and Mew we
did get

While at home, Darrell and Jeff, the route they did set,

On Darrell's phone to Jeff's work, to to test the GPs,

And soon after we got back, Lasagna and homemade garlic bread we all did
digest.

While The boys Brian and David as well as Darrell and Jeff watched the new
Bat Man movie, while Keri and I Dinner we did prepare, and a movie we all
watched later that night, on the Xbox the kids did receive

Five Stars this Movie did receive,

It was the Fourth Wiseman,

We were up till only about 10.

Before the Movie the gifts we did exchange, at least the stockings we had
for them, it was nice,

And Mew Kitty, played with one of her mice,

I did get her at the store,

And soon Jeff and Keri's gifts from us will be at their door,

They haven't opened them yet,

And nice things from them we did get,

One of which are these Leopard silky PJ's, I am wearing as I write this to
post to my blog,

As well as things for Dougie dog.

The Movie was alright, would not give it 5 stars, the actors couldn't
act, we were surprise,

And Yesterday morning about the same time we did rise.

Keri made breakfast sandwich's and the 4 of us were going to go to the 4
Th Avenue Art Fare,

Yet, it was quite cold, so stayed home, hung out and Keri cut our hair.

Though, we don't do much, we still have fun,

And its almost 7, and soon I will have to run,

I have to work for the next 3 days, and Friday I am off,

And need to serve Dinner, made beef stroganoff,

Very likely I will not write till at least Friday or next weekend,

So, till then my friend ,

take good care

And another time more with you all I will share.
